The French Studio

I'm an artist in Santa Barbara, California, working in a variety of media including watercolor, gouache, oil, acrylic, and water-soluble graphite. I generally have both abstract & representational paintings in progress, creating the abstracts in layers, composing as I go, and the representational most often inspired by the world outside my studio — the garden, the beaches down the hill, and Montecito Peak which I can’t seem to stop painting.

I feel fortunate to have had longstanding painting relationships with the beautiful Lotusland Garden in Montecito, and the Lafond Vineyard and Winery in the Santa Ynez valley, which was the first place I exhibited when I began transitioning from film work in LA to painting in Santa Barbara. A detail of one of my wine country paintings is on their Pinot Noir label. I’m also honored to have been with the wonderful Santa Barbara Company since it’s beginning and to have watched it grow. I contributed seven paintings to my architect husband’s Vera Cruz building in downtown SB, a hilarious life chapter when my studio filled up with the work of artists all over the region before moving onto the exterior walls of the building.

In recent years, my family and I have spent a few seasons remote-working and painting in France, after a serendipitous meeting with a string instrument maker who had a workshop he wasn’t using.in a small town near the Pyrenees.

I grew up in the Santa Barbara foothills, with and started selling art at 15, which helped finance a gap year trip to Europe, Illustration study at California State University, Long Beach, and a BFA in Painting & Drawing at the University of Arizona in Tucson. I worked in feature films in LA for many years while also designing/producing furniture on the side with my husband before we returned home to SB to raise our two daughters. I exhibit in venues throughout Santa Barbara county and my paintings are in personal collections in several countries.

Original paintings, prints and boxed notecards are available at the Santa Barbara Winery Tasting Room in downtown Santa Barbara's Funk Zone, the Santa Barbara Company on Victoria Street, the Lotusland Garden Shop in Montecito, Seaside Makers Collective on State Street and on Linden in Carpinteria, and the Lafond Vineyard Tasting Room in Buellton. Boxed notecards are also at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art store.
