I'm an artist in Santa Barbara, California, found most often in my studio, experimenting with line and color, music playing. I generally have both Abstract & Figurative paintings going at once, creating the Abstracts in layers, leaving windows into the versions that preceded the final, and the Figurative inspired by an attempt to capture a moment that's caught my imagination -- the play of light on a mountain peak, a crazy color combination in the garden, the sky as storms gather or blow out.
I grew up in the Santa Barbara foothills and started selling batik paintings at 15, which helped finance a gap year trip to Europe, Illustration study at California State University, Long Beach, and a BFA in Painting & Drawing at the University of Arizona in Tucson. I worked in feature films in LA for many years, designing/producing furniture on the side with my Architect husband, Jeff Shelton, before we returned home to SB to raise our two daughters. I exhibit in venues throughout Santa Barbara county and my paintings are in personal collections in several countries. Seven paintings can be seen on the exterior of Jeff Shelton's Vera Cruz building in downtown Santa Barbara, and a watercolor is featured on Santa Barbara Winery's Pinot Noir label.
New paintings are currently on view at the Lafond Winery Tasting Room in downtown Santa Barbara's Funk Zone, and the Lafond Vineyard in Buellton has an ongoing collection of originals and framed prints.
